Planning for any move is always important, but it is even more important when children are involved.plano-movingOne thing to consider is what time of the year to actually move. If you have the option to choose, a good time to move is during the school summer vacations, as that is when most families have more time. However if you have no choice, a move made during the school year can have advantages as well. Children will start straight away in their new school and often make friends very quickly. When the summer vacation arrives, they will already have new friends to enjoy their summer with.

It is a good idea to discuss the move with the children well in advance so they understand the need for the move. Children need a sense of stability and purpose, so good communication is vital to help with emotional support. They will ask questions such as why are we moving? How will the move benefit me? Why do we have to move away from our friends. Have answers to these questions ready!

There is evidence that elementary aged children who have moved in the past are better adjusted and more adaptable to change than children who have never moved. But you can expect some resistance to any change from children who are settled into friendships. By expecting resistance you can expect to deal with it.
Teenagers, of high school age or older, tend to be more settled, and will be more disturbed by the thought of changing their schools and friends. It is a good idea to visit and spend some time in the new school to which they are moving to. Some students may fear the moving process will set them back in their academic program. So make sure you know enough about the new area or neighborhood to answer important questions from your children.

Movers Plano suggest Children also need to get participate in the move. One good way to get them to participate is to involve them in all the moving decisions. Things like looking for the new home, choosing their rooms, choosing color schemes and furniture. It is a good opportunity to help them throw away older toys and pack special toys, labeling special boxes for their own bedrooms.  Have them make change of address cards for children to give to their old friends. Take lots of photos inside and outside the new house before and after the move. Your children will be happy to share pictures of their new home with their friends, helping them to become happy about the move.

Finally all family members need to have their medical records transferred to the new doctor. With children these medical records are even more important, especially for schools medical entry policy. Ask your current doctor to refer you to a doctor in your new area, unless you have friends there already.
